THE ANNUAL ARMENIAN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATIVE MARCH FOR JUSTICE WILL START AT 10AM IN HOLLYWOOD

April_24_2017_Promo2.jpgLOS ANGELES, CA - On Monday, April 24, 2017, a day which marks the 102nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Unified Young Armenians (UYA) will once again organize the largest Armenian Genocide commemoration event outside the Republic of Armenia.

Just as in the decade past, the Hollywood, California March for Justice will serve as one of the key focal points for raising awareness for the Armenian Genocide, Assyrian Genocide (Sayfo or Seyfo), the Greek Genocide (Pontic Genocide), as well as the modern-day plight of the freedom-loving people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic.

Just as every year, the March for Justice will begin at 10:00 am at the Armenian Genocide Martyr’s Square at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue, in City of Los Angeles. The event will be attended by tens of thousands of community members, community and religious leaders, human rights activists, politicians and government officials.

On April 24, 1915, the Young Turks carried out their plan to annihilate the Armenian population living in the Ottoman Empire. It became the prototype for all genocides following thereafter. The mass extermination and systematic killings resulted in the massacre of 1.5 million innocent Armenian men, women, and children, alongside upwards of a million Greeks and Assyrians. For over a century, this crime against humanity has gone unpunished. The descendants of the Ottoman Empire – the Republic of Turkey – refuses to acknowledge the guilt of their ancestors and continue to blackmail, bribe and lie in order to conceal the truth.

The March for Justice aims to commemorate the millions of innocent lives lost in 1896-1923 in the Ottoman Empire, modern-day Turkey. More importantly, the March aims to send a clear message to all levels of government, both at home and abroad, urging them to also join our fight for justice and truth.

UYA is a non-partisan, non-religious, and a non-profit grassroots youth organization headquartered in Southern California. Its goal is to encourage activism among the Armenian youth while advocating justice and human rights. It upholds the power of knowledge and education. UYA’s mission is to serve the collective good and to promote a world free of genocides.
